Founded in 1945, Wema Bank Plc is Nigeria's longest-surviving indigenous bank. Originally established as a private limited liability company, it became a Public Limited Company in 1987 and was listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group in 1990. After operating as a regional bank for a period, it upgraded to a National Banking license in 2015, allowing it to operate in all parts of Nigeria. The bank is renowned for its innovation in the digital space, having launched ALAT, Africa's first fully digital bank, in 2017.
