Texas Commerce Bank National Association

Information by Research Trustfinance

Texas Commerce Bank was a major multibank holding company headquartered in Houston, Texas, known for its iconic "momentum" logo designed by Saul Bass. Founded in the 19th century, it grew to become one of the largest and most powerful financial institutions in Texas. In 1987, facing challenges from a severe downturn in the Texas economy, it was acquired by New York's Chemical Bank in what was then one of the largest interstate banking mergers. Through a series of subsequent mergers, Chemical Bank acquired Chase Manhattan Bank and adopted its name, eventually merging with J.P. Morgan & Co. to form the modern JPMorgan Chase & Co. The Texas Commerce Bank name was officially retired in 1998 and its branches were rebranded as Chase.
