Established in 1946, the Sequoia Healthcare District (SHD) is a non-profit public agency focused on improving the health of its community. It is funded primarily through local property taxes. The District's mission is to invest these funds into local health-focused initiatives by providing grants to non-profit organizations, supporting school health programs, and offering scholarships to students pursuing healthcare careers. Historically, the District owned and operated Sequoia Hospital, which is now part of the Dignity Health network, but SHD retains ownership of the hospital property and continues its work as a community health foundation.
