Sberbank Hrvatska
Information by Research Trustfinance
Sberbank d.d. (operating as Sberbank Hrvatska) was a universal bank in Croatia, providing a full range of retail, SME, and corporate banking services. It became part of the Sberbank Europe Group in 2012 following the acquisition of Volksbank International AG. However, due to the geopolitical events of early 2022 and subsequent sanctions, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Single Resolution Board (SRB) determined that Sberbank Europe AG and its subsidiaries, including the Croatian entity, were failing or likely to fail. To ensure financial stability and protect depositors, a resolution process was initiated. On March 1, 2022, Hrvatska poštanska banka (HPB) acquired 100% ownership of Sberbank d.d. The bank was temporarily rebranded as "Nova Hrvatska Banka" before being fully merged and integrated into HPB's systems and brand by April 2023.
