Founded in 2019 by Chiagozie Iwu, Naijacrypto positioned itself as a comprehensive cryptocurrency exchange for Nigeria and the broader African continent. The platform offered spot trading for various cryptocurrencies against the Nigerian Naira (NGN), a peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplace, and wallet services. Its mission was to drive crypto adoption in Africa by providing an accessible and user-friendly platform. However, following regulatory challenges in Nigeria and operational difficulties, the platform ceased operations in early 2022. Subsequently, the US-based remittance and crypto company Afriex acquired Naijacrypto's user base to expand its own footprint in the region.
