General American Life Insurance Company
Information by Research Trustfinance
Founded in 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri, General American Life Insurance Company grew to become a significant national provider of life insurance, annuities, and retirement products. For decades, it operated as a mutual insurance company, owned by its policyholders. In 2000, following a period of financial restructuring, the company was acquired by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife). Since the acquisition, General American Life Insurance Company ceased to operate as an independent entity, and its brand, operations, and existing policies were fully integrated into MetLife's business structure. All claims, servicing, and inquiries for former General American policies are now handled directly by MetLife.
