First Nations Market Housing Fund
Information by Research TrustFinance
The First Nations Market Housing Fund is a registered not-for-profit trust established by the Government of Canada in 2008 with a one-time investment of $300 million. Its mission is to facilitate and broaden access to market-based financing for housing on First Nations lands. The Fund does not provide loans directly but works with First Nations and financial institutions by providing a loan-backing mechanism (Credit Enhancement) to encourage lenders to provide mortgages. It also offers Capacity Development support to help First Nations establish and manage market-based housing programs.
