Founded in 1994, First Allied Securities, Inc. established itself as a major independent broker-dealer and registered investment adviser in the United States. Its primary business model was to support independent financial advisors by providing them with a comprehensive platform that included technology, research, compliance, and operational support. This allowed advisors to offer a wide range of financial products and wealth management services to their clients. In 2014, the firm was acquired by RCAP Holdings, which was later acquired by Cetera Financial Group. Following the acquisition, First Allied was integrated into the Cetera network and officially rebranded as Cetera Advisor Networks LLC in 2020, where it continues its mission of supporting financial professionals.
