Established in 1979, the District of Columbia Housing Finance Agency (DCHFA) is an instrumentality of the District of Columbia government created to stimulate and expand homeownership and rental housing opportunities. DCHFA accomplishes its mission by issuing tax-exempt mortgage revenue bonds to lower the cost of funds for developers of affordable housing and to provide below-market interest rate mortgages for first-time homebuyers. The agency operates various programs aimed at developers, renters, and homebuyers to address the city's housing needs.
