Established in 1947, the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) is the independent central bank of the Republic of Iraq. Its primary mission is to ensure domestic price stability, foster and maintain a stable, competitive, and modern financial system, and promote sustainable growth, employment, and prosperity in Iraq. The CBI is responsible for issuing and managing the national currency (the Iraqi Dinar), implementing monetary policy, holding the country's reserves of gold and foreign currency, and acting as the banker and fiscal agent to the Government of Iraq. It also regulates and supervises the entire banking sector to ensure its soundness and efficiency.
