Founded in 1958 by the South Carolina General Assembly, the Business Development Corporation (BDC) is a private, non-governmental corporation that assists in the promotion and advancement of businesses and industries throughout the state. It is a Certified Development Company (CDC) authorized by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), specializing in administering the SBA 504 Loan Program. The BDC's mission is to encourage economic growth and create job opportunities by partnering with banks and other lenders to provide long-term, fixed-rate financing to healthy, growing businesses that may not qualify for conventional loans alone.
