Brown and Company, Inc.
Information by Research TrustFinance
Founded in 1960, Brown and Company was one of the original deep-discount brokerage firms in the United States, offering low-cost trade execution services to individual investors. The company built a reputation for its no-frills, direct-access model, which was a significant departure from traditional full-service brokers. In 1999, the company was acquired by J.P. Morgan Chase. Subsequently, in 2005, E*TRADE Financial Corporation acquired Brown and Company from J.P. Morgan Chase, absorbing its customer accounts and operations. Today, the Brown and Company brand no longer exists, and its legacy is part of the E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley platform.
