It operated as a business development company (BDC) and was publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker ACAS. The firm focused on providing capital to middle-market companies for acquisitions, growth, and recapitalizations. It managed a diverse portfolio of investments and also sponsored and managed other investment funds. In January 2017, the company was acquired by Ares Capital Corporation (NASDAQ: ARCC) in a deal valued at approximately $3.4 billion, effectively ceasing its independent operations.
