Student Loan Movement
Information by Research TrustFinance
Student Loan Movement, officially operating as SLM Group, Inc., was a California-based company that marketed student loan debt relief services to federal borrowers across the United States. The company claimed to help customers enroll in government programs for lower monthly payments or complete loan forgiveness by preparing and submitting application paperwork. However, the company became the subject of a major enforcement action by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC found that the company deceptively charged consumers over $21 million in illegal upfront fees, falsely claimed an affiliation with the U.S. Department of Education, and made unsubstantiated promises of debt relief. In September 2022, a federal court order permanently banned the company and its operators from the debt relief industry.
