Launched in the UK in 2015, the company aimed to simplify SME financing by using a sophisticated algorithm to assess the real-time performance of businesses and make fast lending decisions. In March 2019, Spotcap announced it was winding down its UK lending operations, citing market uncertainty surrounding Brexit as a key factor. The parent company, Spotcap Global Services GmbH, has since shifted its focus from direct lending to a "Lending-as-a-Service" (LaaS) model, providing its digital lending platform and technology to other financial institutions.
