Established in 1990, the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) initially managed Ireland's national debt. Its mandate has since expanded significantly to include managing the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (a sovereign development fund), providing financial advice and project management for public-private partnerships through the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA), advising on state-owned enterprises through NewERA, and handling claims against the state via the State Claims Agency (SCA). The NTMA operates with a commercial ethos, aiming to manage the state's assets and liabilities effectively on behalf of the Irish taxpayer.
