National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)
Information by Research Trustfinance
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is a U.S.-based voluntary organization of the chief insurance regulatory officials from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. Its primary mission is to support state regulators in serving the public interest and to promote a competitive insurance market. Established in 1871, the NAIC provides expertise, data, and analysis for insurance commissioners to effectively regulate the industry and protect consumers. It serves as a forum for developing uniform policies and standards, but it does not have the authority to create laws; rather, its model laws and regulations must be adopted by individual states to become enforceable.
