Founded in 2012, GetBack S.A. rapidly grew to become one of the largest debt collection and NPL portfolio management companies in Poland. The company acquired debt portfolios from banks and other financial institutions and managed the recovery process. After a successful IPO on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2017, the company collapsed in 2018 amid one of Poland's largest financial scandals. It was revealed that the company had engaged in the aggressive mis-selling of its corporate bonds to thousands of retail investors, allegedly operating as a Ponzi scheme. This led to the suspension of its shares, the dismissal of its management board, and the initiation of criminal and regulatory investigations. The company is currently in a formal, court-supervised restructuring process to address its massive debts and obligations to creditors and bondholders.
