The company grew significantly and expanded its business model to include a direct-to-consumer online car retailing platform, allowing customers to buy, finance, and trade-in used cars entirely online. However, in early 2023, the company filed for creditor protection under the CCAA and was subsequently acquired by goeasy Ltd. As part of its restructuring, Canada Drives shut down its in-house online retail operations and returned to its original, more sustainable business model of acting as a marketplace that connects consumers with auto financing and vehicle options from a network of partner dealerships across the country.
