iDEAL is an inter-bank payment method that enables real-time online payments directly from a consumer's bank account. Originally developed by the Dutch banking community under the organization Currence, it has become the dominant online payment method in the Netherlands. In 2023, iDEAL was acquired by the European Payments Initiative (EPI) with the mission to build a new, unified, and innovative payment solution for Europe, leveraging iDEAL's established technology and brand recognition as a foundation for its pan-European digital wallet.
