Founded in 2009 in Germany, Fidor Bank AG was one of the world's first "fintech" or digital-only banks. It aimed to bring Web 2.0 principles to banking, building a community-centric model that integrated social media and rewarded customer interaction. The bank offered a range of retail and business banking services, including current accounts, savings products, and loans, and was an early adopter of cryptocurrency integration through a partnership with Kraken. After being acquired by France's Groupe BPCE, Fidor announced in 2022 that it would be closing its B2C and B2B banking operations in Germany to refocus its parent company's efforts on the B2B "Banking-as-a-Service" (BaaS) platform under the separate Fidor Solutions entity. The bank officially ceased operations for its customers during 2023.
