Climate Savers
Information by Research TrustFinance
Launched in 1999 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Climate Savers program was a pioneering initiative designed to engage the private sector in climate action. The program's mission was to establish a leadership alliance of companies that would voluntarily set science-based targets for reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, thereby demonstrating that a low-carbon economy is both possible and profitable. Over its lifespan, the program partnered with over 30 of the world's leading companies, helping them cut their carbon footprint and innovate in sustainability. The program has since evolved, with its principles and methodologies being foundational to newer, broader initiatives such as the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
