The West African Monetary Institute (WAMI) was established in December 2000 and is headquartered in Accra, Ghana. Its primary mission is to facilitate the creation of the West African Central Bank (WACB) and the launch of a single currency, the ECO, for the member states of the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ). WAMI's functions include promoting macroeconomic convergence, harmonizing monetary policies and statistical frameworks, and designing the operational framework for the future common central bank.
