The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a cabinet-level executive department of the United States federal government. Established as its current cabinet-level entity in 1989, its mission is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan."
