Founded in 2015, Verse was a Barcelona-based financial technology company that offered a mobile application for easy and instant peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, primarily targeting the European market. The service allowed users to send, receive, and request money from contacts free of charge. In 2020, Verse was acquired by Square (now Block, Inc.) to strengthen its presence in Europe. However, in June 2023, Block announced its decision to discontinue the Verse app, and the service was officially shut down on September 13, 2023. The operating legal entity was Verse Payments Lithuania UAB, which holds an Electronic Money Institution license from the Bank of Lithuania.
