The company's name, VEREIT, is a blend of 'veritas' (the Latin word for truth) and REIT, which was chosen to signify a commitment to transparency and a new direction following a 2014 accounting scandal under its former name, American Realty Capital Properties, Inc. (ARCP). On November 1, 2021, VEREIT, Inc. officially merged with Realty Income Corporation (NYSE: O), creating one of the largest global net lease REITs. Following the merger, VEREIT common stock ceased trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
