It was launched in 2013 to provide short-term online loans to UK customers, often those with less-than-perfect credit histories, as an alternative to traditional payday lenders. The company focused on offering more manageable weekly or monthly repayment plans. However, due to a surge in customer affordability complaints and increased regulatory pressure on the high-cost credit sector, its parent company announced the closure of Satsuma Loans in May 2021.
