The Oriental Insurance Company Limited (OICL) was incorporated in Mumbai on September 12, 1947. Initially a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Oriental Government Security Life Assurance Company Ltd, it was established to conduct General Insurance business. Following the nationalization of the general insurance industry in India in 1973, OICL became a subsidiary of the General Insurance Corporation of India until 2003, when the Central Government acquired the shares from GIC. Today, OICL is a fully government-owned entity, providing a diverse portfolio of insurance products for urban and rural populations, including coverage for fire, motor, health, engineering, and agriculture.
