The company was formed in 2019 through the merger of C&J Energy Services and Keane Group. NexTier focused on delivering efficient and innovative solutions to exploration and production companies across major U.S. basins. On September 1, 2023, NexTier completed a merger of equals with Patterson-UTI Energy, Inc., with the combined company now operating under the Patterson-UTI name.
