Liyeplimal, founded by Cameroonian national Emile Parfait Simb, presented itself as a simplified crypto investment service under the umbrella of Global Investment Trading S.A. The company sold "investment packs" to users, promising them significant weekly or monthly returns allegedly generated from the company's expertise in cryptocurrency trading and management. It gained massive popularity, particularly in Francophone Africa. However, investigations and public warnings from multiple financial regulators revealed it to be a large-scale Ponzi scheme, which ultimately collapsed in late 2021 to early 2022, leading to the founder's arrest and the loss of funds for thousands of investors.
