The ICON Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Switzerland that oversees the development and promotion of the ICON Network. Launched in 2017, ICON's mission is to "hyperconnect the world" by building a decentralized network that allows independent blockchains to interact with each other. The protocol is powered by its native cryptocurrency, ICX, which is used for transaction fees, governance, and securing the network through a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism.
