Information by Research TrustFinance
Equitalia S.p.A. was a joint-stock company with 100% public capital, owned by the Agenzia delle Entrate (51%) and the INPS (49%). Its primary mission was the collection of taxes, duties, and social security contributions on behalf of the state and other public bodies across Italy. Established in its final form in 2005, it operated as the sole agent for national collection. Due to widespread controversy regarding its methods and high penalty rates, the Italian government passed legislation (Decreto-Legge n. 193/2016) to dissolve the company. On July 1, 2017, Equitalia ceased to exist, and its functions were absorbed by the newly created public entity, Agenzia delle Entrate-Riscossione, which operates directly under the supervision of the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate).
