eftpos australia
Information by Research TrustFinance
eftpos (an acronym for electronic funds transfer at point of sale) is Australia's primary domestic debit card payment system, processing over two billion transactions a year. Established in 1984, it has become a fundamental part of the Australian payments landscape, offering low-cost and secure real-time payments for consumers and merchants. In 2021, eftpos Payments Australia Limited merged with BPAY Group and NPP Australia to form a new, single domestic payments organization called Australian Payments Plus (AP+). While eftpos continues to operate as a distinct brand and service, it is now part of the broader AP+ entity, which aims to shape the future of payments in Australia.
