Founded in 2004 in Montreal, Canada, AlertPay Inc. was an e-commerce payment system that allowed users to send and receive money online. It operated as an e-wallet, similar to PayPal, serving as a payment intermediary for merchants and individuals globally. In May 2012, AlertPay merged with UK-based MH Pillars Ltd. and rebranded its services under the name "Payza." As Payza, the company continued to operate and expand its services, including adding cryptocurrency transactions. However, in March 2018, the U.S. Department of Justice seized the company's domain and shut down its operations, indicting its founders on charges of operating an illegal internet-based money transmitting business and money laundering.
