Founded in 1981, AGICOA (Association de Gestion Internationale Collective des Oeuvres Audiovisuelles) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to track and distribute royalties to independent producers for the retransmission of their works. Its mission is to ensure that when an audiovisual work is broadcast by cable or other means, the rights holders (producers) are fairly compensated. AGICOA uses a proprietary and comprehensive audiovisual registration system, ISAN (International Standard Audiovisual Number), to identify works and manage the complex process of royalty collection and distribution on a global scale.
