The Payment Systems Regulator is the economic regulator for the £100 trillion UK payments industry, which underpins the country's entire economy. Established in April 2015, the PSR's statutory objectives are to promote competition and innovation in payment systems and to ensure they operate in the interests of all the service users who rely on them. It is an independent subsidiary of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and is accountable to the UK Parliament. The PSR's work includes monitoring the market, setting standards, enforcing rules, and driving strategic changes, such as the New Payments Architecture (NPA), to foster a more resilient and competitive payments landscape.
