Overview

COPP CLARK LTD

Information by Research TrustFinance

Founded in Toronto in 1841 as Maclear & Co., the company became The Copp, Clark Company in 1869. For over a century, it was a cornerstone of the Canadian publishing industry, acting as an agent for British publishers and producing a wide array of original Canadian content. The firm was renowned for its educational, medical, and technical books, as well as popular fiction. One of its most notable publications was the "Canadian Almanac & Directory," which it published for over 100 years. In the latter half of the 20th century, the company was acquired and its various divisions were sold off and absorbed into larger conglomerates; its educational publishing arm became part of Pearson Canada, and its professional division (Copp Clark Professional) was integrated into Thomson Reuters.
