Watsi is a technology-focused non-profit organization founded in 2012 with the mission to make healthcare accessible for everyone. It gained prominence as the first non-profit to be backed by the accelerator Y Combinator, launching a pioneering global crowdfunding platform that allowed individuals to directly donate to fund medical treatments for patients in need. Having funded care for over 22,000 patients, Watsi wound down its direct-to-patient crowdfunding platform in 2021 to pivot its focus. The organization now concentrates on building technology solutions, such as its Peach.health software, to support and improve the operational efficiency of health programs and insurance providers in low-income countries.
