Founded in 1963 and headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, United Guaranty Corporation was a major provider of private mortgage insurance (MI) in the United States. Its primary business was to protect mortgage lenders and investors from losses resulting from a borrower's default on a home loan. The company was a subsidiary of American International Group (AIG) from 1981 until 2016, when AIG sold it to Arch Capital Group Ltd. Following the acquisition, United Guaranty's operations were fully integrated into Arch's existing mortgage insurance business, which now operates as Arch Mortgage Insurance Company (Arch MI).
