Qiwi
Information by Viktor Boscovich
Founded in 2007, QIWI plc became a leading provider of next-generation payment and financial services in Russia and the CIS region. The company's primary offerings included the widely-used QIWI Wallet, an online and mobile payment processing system, and a large network of physical payment kiosks. These services allowed millions of users to pay for goods and services, transfer money, and manage funds electronically. However, in February 2024, the company's core operations were abruptly halted after the Central Bank of Russia revoked the banking license of its main subsidiary, QIWI Bank (JSC), leading to the suspension of all wallet operations and the initiation of liquidation proceedings for its primary Russian business.
