Novi
Information by Research TrustFinance
Novi was a digital wallet project initiated by Meta Platforms, Inc. (formerly Facebook) to provide a simple, secure, and low-cost way for people to send and receive money internationally. Originally announced as "Calibra" for the "Libra" cryptocurrency, it was rebranded to Novi and intended to operate on the Diem blockchain. The project aimed to foster financial inclusion by enabling instant cross-border transactions. However, facing significant regulatory and political pressure globally, the Diem project was ultimately dismantled. Meta launched a small pilot of Novi in the US and Guatemala using the Paxos Dollar (USDP) stablecoin, but announced the end of the pilot and the discontinuation of the entire Novi service on July 1, 2022, with the service officially shutting down on September 1, 2022.
