NextShares Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of Eaton Vance which is now part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, is a financial services company that created and owns the intellectual property for NextShares™. These are a unique type of exchange-traded managed fund that allows for active management while offering the potential for greater tax efficiency and lower costs compared to traditional mutual funds. Unlike ETFs, they were designed to trade at the next-determined net asset value (NAV) rather than intraday market prices, protecting the fund's intellectual property. However, following their launch, all existing NextShares funds were converted into traditional ETFs by early 2022, and no new funds have been launched using the structure. The company now primarily manages the existing patents and intellectual property.
