Mysterium is an open-source project building a decentralized network of VPN nodes. Its mission is to provide private, censorship-resistant, and affordable internet access to a global community. Unlike traditional VPNs that operate centralized servers, Mysterium's network is powered by its users, who can run nodes and rent out their spare bandwidth to others in exchange for the network's native utility token, MYST. This P2P architecture aims to make surveillance and censorship more difficult, while also creating a distributed marketplace for bandwidth. The project is developed and overseen by the Swiss-based Mysterium Foundation.
