Founded as Quoine in 2014, the company launched its comprehensive trading platform, Liquid, in 2018. It became one of the world's first cryptocurrency exchanges to be licensed by the Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA). The platform offered spot and margin trading, perpetual swaps, and other crypto-financial services. In February 2022, Liquid was acquired by the global exchange FTX. However, following FTX's collapse and Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in November 2022, Liquid was forced to halt all withdrawals and cease operations. The platform and its assets are now part of the ongoing FTX bankruptcy proceedings.
