Founded in 2004, LifeShield was a pioneer in the direct-to-consumer, do-it-yourself (DIY) home security market. The company offered wireless, customizable security systems that customers could install themselves, with the option of professional 24/7 monitoring services. In February 2019, LifeShield was acquired by the security industry giant ADT. Following the acquisition, ADT integrated LifeShield's technology and customer base, eventually discontinuing the LifeShield brand and relaunching the service as "Blue by ADT," which has since been rebranded again to "ADT Self Setup."
