KBC Financial Products was a highly specialized business unit of the KBC Group, focusing on the design, trading, and sale of complex financial instruments, including equity derivatives and structured products, for institutional clients. Established as a significant player in its niche, it operated globally with major offices in London, New York, and Tokyo. Following the 2008 global financial crisis, its parent, KBC Group, received state aid and agreed to a strategic restructuring plan with the European Commission. As part of this plan, KBC announced in 2009 that it would wind down the operations of KBC Financial Products. The run-off of its portfolio was managed over several years and completed the process of its closure.
