Founded in 1994 by Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo, Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores S.A. is one of Colombia's largest and most influential financial holding companies. It operates through its four main commercial banks (Banco de Bogotá, Banco de Occidente, Banco Popular, and Banco AV Villas), the private pension and severance fund administrator Porvenir, and the investment banking corporation Corficolombiana. The group offers a wide array of services including commercial and consumer banking, trust services, pension and severance fund management, and treasury operations. It has a dominant presence in the Colombian market and has expanded significantly into Central America through its acquisition of BAC Credomatic.
