Originally established by the UK Government in 2012 as the Green Investment Bank, it was the world's first investment bank dedicated to greening the economy. In 2017, it was acquired by Macquarie Group and is now a specialist business within Macquarie Asset Management. Green Investment Group (GIG) is a global leader in the development and investment of green infrastructure, from offshore wind projects to solar energy and waste-to-energy facilities. Its mission is to accelerate the green transition by investing capital and expertise into renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure projects worldwide.
