ECCHO
Information by Research TrustFinance
Originally founded in 1990 as the Electronic Check Clearing House Organization, ECCHO established a uniform set of rules and standards to enable financial institutions to exchange check images electronically. This work was critical in modernizing the U.S. check payment system. In 2018, ECCHO was acquired by The Clearing House (TCH), a payments company owned by the largest commercial banks in the U.S. Today, ECCHO's services and rule-making functions are fully integrated into TCH's offerings, continuing to govern the majority of all U.S. check images cleared between private-sector financial institutions.
