Founded in 1989, Capital Credit Union is one of the largest credit unions in the UK, serving over 25,000 members primarily in the East of Scotland. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, it is owned and run by its members. Its mission is to provide affordable financial services, including savings accounts, personal loans, and mortgages, while promoting financial well-being and keeping money within the local community. Unlike traditional banks, any profits generated are returned to members through dividends or reinvested to improve services.
